KAMP Hotels is excited to announce the acquisition of the Courtyard by Marriott Amarillo Downtown, located in the Fisk Building on historic Polk Street. This addition marks another major milestone in the growth of the Amarillo-based ownership and management group and brings their hotel count in Amarillo and Lubbock to six.

The Fisk Building is one of Amarillo’s most significant high-rises, originally constructed in the mid-1920s during the oil boom. Designed by renowned architect Guy Carlander, the 11-story, steel-frame structure was built to house doctors and dentists before becoming home to the First National Bank and later Zales Jewelers. In 2011, the historic building was transformed into the 107-room Courtyard by Marriott. In 2013, it was honored with a Texas Historical Marker and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“This acquisition means a great deal to us because the Fisk tells the story of our past while continuing to shape our city’s future,” said Kevin Nelson of KAMP Hotels. “It’s remarkable that, after all these years, the building still plays such a central role, welcoming visitors from around the world and remaining a part of Amarillo’s story every day. As part of a group of local investors, we are proud to say this wonderful hotel will now be locally owned and locally managed.”

KAMP Hotels and 39:23 Management now own and operate 506 rooms across Amarillo and Lubbock, employing over 140 team members. In addition to the Downtown Courtyard, their portfolio includes Tru by Hilton Amarillo West, Hyatt Place Amarillo West, Home2 Suites by Hilton Amarillo West, My Place Hotel – Amarillo West/Medical Center, and My Place Hotel – Lubbock.

For 39:23 Management, the acquisition ties directly to its mission of putting people first.

“We believe life is all about people, and our role is to take care of people…our team, our guests, and our community,” said John David Terry, Chief Operating Officer of 39:23 Management. “The Courtyard is more than a hotel, it’s a gathering place in the center of our city. We’re honored to carry forward its history while creating exceptional experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.”

Amarillo continues to see strong travel demand. According to the Amarillo Convention & Visitors Bureau, visitors spent more than $1 billion in the community in 2023, and that number is expected to grow. Recent investments in downtown, including the streetscape along Polk Street, have helped make it one of the most popular places for out-of-town guests to stay. For KAMP Hotels and 39:23 Management, this acquisition reinforces their commitment to Amarillo’s future.

“There is incredible momentum in Amarillo and throughout the Panhandle,” Nelson added. “We see it in the economic growth across the region and in projects like the new data centers just outside the city. Our role is to welcome visitors, care for them while they are here, and ensure they experience true Panhandle hospitality.”
